South Jersey Truck Bodies is a new business that fabricates custom truck bodies. SJTB wanted a design that was patriotic, and All-American. SJTB also stated that they wanted to create an iconic look, while trying to stay to a clean, easy to read design.
My first step of this process was to study what other truck body fabrication companies, welders, metal workers, and commercial truck companies did for their branding to see what works, and what doesn’t.
The more complex logos were comped using gray scale to show the legibility of the design before color was introduced, along with the logo’s ability to be reproduced in black and white.
The client chose to move forward with the eagle design. They felt the design not only have the most patriotic feel, but also drove home the idea of trucks/cars with the winged emblem.
I introduced blues and reds into the logo for the patriotic them and started working on more branding (such as business cards and letterhead), which incorporated pictures of the actual truck bodies being fabricated, along with keeping with the red and blue color scheme.
Once branding was finalized, and printed items ordered, it was time to start building the website. It was imperative that the design be responsive and offer plenty of photos of SJTB’s products. A minimalist layout was decided upon with a few pages, along with galleries that could be easily added to. I also incorporated contact forms on every page so customers didn’t have to find a way to contact, once they found the truck body they were interested in.
After the website was built, Google Analytics was installed, along with other tracking software to help analyze traffic patterns to see where the website could be continually improved.
This project is on going and improvements are constantly being done, including how galleries were originally implemented, photos are updated, along with information on the individual builds.
